Breaking news: Pope Benedict XIV has just released (July 2009) anew encyclical, "Charity in Truth." This documentwas released on the eve of a G-8 summit in Italy, and provides a dramaticchallenge to the economic status quo. Pope John XXIII called for cooperativedevelopment as part of his 1961 encyclical "OnChristianity and Social Progress." (sec 82-90) This was furtheraddressed in 1981 by John Paul II in "On Human Work." "The Spirit of Scott Bader"describes the values and structure of the Scott Bader Commonwealth. Erbin Crowell's "Friends' Economic Witness andSustainable Commerce" examines a Quaker view of cooperatives.Crowell is the creator of Equal Exchange's InterfaithProgram, which provides Organic and Fairly Traded Two articles about the Mondragoncooperatives of Spain's Basque country appeared in the the Winter 2004issue of St. John's University Review of Business: a short interviewwith Juan M.
