Research Paper Introduction on Abortion

The attitude towards abortion has always been and still is very controversial. It has, however, changed throughout the history of humanity: for example, it was commonly accepted in the times of Ancient Greece and Rome. On the other hand, he majority of men were against abortion as they felt they were entitled to have a baby. There are a few references to abortion in an Old Testament, where a fetus was perceived rather than an object, not a living being. In other words, there was a law, that if a person causes a miscarriage, he must be punished for that. There are no references to this topic in the New Testament. Later on, abortion in the western world was not considered a crime if done before a certain period, usually before 18-20 weeks. It was a common practice in the colonial America, but was usually kept in secret, as sexual activity before marriage was disapproved by the society. The Abortion Act of 1967 in England fully legalized abortion, but under certain conditions. It states that a doctor has the right to perform an abortion if other two doctors agree that this is done for the sake of the woman. For example, doctors are sure that giving birth to a child will cause physical or mental harm to a woman. Still, there are lots of debates concerning whether abortion should be legalized or not.

The cons of abortion usually include the following facts:

All over the world, headlines of the newspapers are talking about recession. Recession can be defined as the slowing down of business processes or activities. As a result, it has affected the world’s economy. The prices for goods and services have sky rocketed, companies are doing badly and the stock markets are not doing well. This has been transferred to the lives of people. Many people are struggling to earn a living so that they can survive in this poor economy. Therefore, people have been affected socially and economically thus making the relevant authorities to try to find solutions to solve the problems.

In many people’s discussion, the main topic is what caused the global recession. According to analysis, the American housing project is one of the causes. The government created a good system to lend people with so that they can be able to afford houses and as a result, the rates of inflation went up (, 2008). Another cause of the recession is the rise in fuel prices. Almost all the commodities made by different companies must have used fuel either directly or indirectly. All this has emanated from the US trickling down to the other countries; thus, becoming a global issue. The locations, which I chose, were Starbucks, a friend’s house and ‘the spot’ that is hookah lounge. This are places where many people go to and as well as them being conducive for ing.

Day 1-Starbucks
It is on the 12th day of October, in the year 2011, that I set out to go and observe the effects that Facebook has had on the adult population. According to research, over eighty percent of American adults consume coffee and Starbucks is where they obtain their favorite brew. Research Paper on Intangible Assets including Goodwill

IFRS versus GAAP: Assessing the Issue
Major sources of investment capital have long favored greater harmony and transparency in global accounting standards (Ohlgart & Ernst, 2011). While world accounting standards in the modern sense originated in the US, a divergence has occurred between GAAP criteria and the prevailing international accounting standards, currently represented by IFRS criteria. The latter are now in official use in 120 nations (Tyson, 2011, p. 27). In October 2002, FASB and IASB formalized the Norwalk Agreement, to converge in their accounting rules over time (Charron & Moores, 2011; Tyson, 2011). Since then, both the major accounting associations and government regulators have moved toward convergence in accounting practices. In light of this development, this paper will look at whether to recommend that the SEC maintain GAAP criteria for firms that report in the US or move to IFRS criteria, especially concerning the issue of intangible assets.

The Call for Convergence
After the Enron and WorldCom accounting fiascos, which “culminated in huge financial losses and decimated capital markets worldwide,” there has been vociferous pressure, especially from European firms and auditing agencies, for the US to join the growing world community of accounting practice by moving away from GAAP and toward IFRS criteria (Tyson, 2011, p. 25). This assumes that globally standardized criteria would have improved transparency in financial reporting at Enron and WorldCom, raising awareness of irregularities earlier. Thus, some have argued that IFRS standards, which rely on principles more than rules, foment more professional judgment, which creates transparency (Tyson, 2011, p. 30). Admittedly, GAAP criteria are better at industry-specific detail, but there have also been arguments that they may encourage “financial engineering” (Tyson, 2011, p. 27). Nevertheless, credible academic sources find no evidence that IFRS standards are superior to GAAP criteria (Tyson, 2011, p. 30)….

Free Sample Research Paper on Abortion

There have been an increasing number of abortion cases throughout the world. This scenario has been fuelled by among other factors social and economic factors. Abortion is the termination of pregnancy. It is the removal of the foetus before it is viable. It is usually done before the foetus gets to 25 weeks old. It is either spontaneous or induced abortion. Abortion refers to the induced type (Malcolm 1977 page 12).

In developed countries, abortion is legal whereas most developing countries do not encourage and permit abortion. This brings about the differences in safe and unsafe abortions. Abortion accounts for over 70,000 maternal deaths worldwide.

Abortion has a long history. In the past, it was done using crude tools such as sharpened tools, physical trauma and other traditional methods. With advancement in the field of medicine, contemporary methods are now used and involve the use of medication and surgical procedures (Nada 1998 page 61).

Each country in the world has different legality, cultural and religious statuses and prevalence of abortion. The ethical principles towards abortion and removal of pregnancies also vary. Countries such as the United States of America and Britain have heated politics surrounding the issue of abortion in pro-life and pro-choice campaigns (Ted 1995 page 66). These are based on the argument that for one group, it should be legalized and for the other, abortion should not. Most governments in the developed countries have legalized abortion. Many developing and underdeveloped countries have not legalized abortion and have no control over what is done by the medical personnel….
